False Positive

And the good news is… Drum rollllll… Noah’s positive PKU test was a false positive! There’s not a thing wrong with my little cherub! He’s healthy! Wooooo-hooooo!

He weighed 5 pound 9 ounces which is a pound weight gain from birth weight, and he is only 3 weeks old!

They tried to wean him off oxygen today but he didn’t maintain the oxygen levels by himself. So he has to wear the tube a bit longer. No biggy, we’ll try again next week.

Just thought I’d share the great news!

Child of Mine

Bella totally shocked me the other day! We were getting out of the car at home, unloading the car of our entourage of children, diaper bags, blankets, bottles, etc. Jeremy all the while was fussing at Austin about something or other and Noah was in terrible need of a diaper change and a feeding. Bella was whining about something in the driveway but we are working on trying to ignore some of that, so I carried on about unloading the car. After a few moments of her not stopping with the fussy voice (which can be like fingernails on a chalk board) I finally looked down at her and said, “Bella, DANG IT, what is wrong with you?”

She holds her hand out flat as to show me something and she says, “Biiite”.

I look closer at her hand and notice that there is a broken, nasty, squished creature on her palm. “What the hell is that,” I asked? She squashed a spider with her BARE. HAND. People!

“Biiiite,” Bella said, looking rather distressed.

“What? Did it bite you? Oh hellll nooooo! Jeremy, I think she was bit by this spider she squished!”

He says no she wasn’t. Quit worrying, woman. She just squashed him. She’s fine. And he went back to his bitch at Austin session. Because, you know, bitching at Austin is way more important than the EMERGENCY that I was facing. Our BABY GIRL was bitten by one of these Bitch Ass Spiders! Damn the Orkin Man! Damn the $200 extermination! Damn the 8 legged bastards that are taking over my home!

Long story short: She wasn’t bitten. She’s tough. She’s tougher than her run like hell from bees, bugs, and germs neurotic mother. I’m telling ya, this gal could teach me a thing or two about muscles and being tough. I have a mommy warrior as my mascot to this blog but the truth is that I’m a woos a lot of the time! I’m a big scaredy cat! I’m tough when it counts, I guess. But Bella– she’s The Bomb, folks. No man or woman or spider will bring her down. She’ll squash them and eat them for lunch!

Well, hopefully not eat them… Yuchhh!

Little Big Man & Family Ramblings

                                           beefcake

                                            “Yeah, I’m a Beefcake!”

Noah had another appointment today and weighed in at 5 pounds and 2 ounces! He has gained 5 ounces in 4 days! They took him off the human milk fortifier last Thursday, so his weight gain should be just a bit slower now. He tested positive for PKU last week in his genetic screening by the State so had to have the test taken again today to see if perhaps it tested positive because of stress. We’re hoping for the best but are a bit frustrated by all of this. It’s been one thing after another it seems. PKU only happens in like 1 out of 15,000 babies. We are certain that Noah is just fine and that his levels were elevated because of stress. But, if not, at least we are catching the disease early and will prevent any “IQ problems”, as the Doc put it.

Anyhow, in other news… Bella is starting to show some slight signs of envy. She is really whiney suddenly and though very loving towards Noah, she seems a bit hurt that he is taking so much of my time. She is really struggling with going to sleep– be it a nap or at night, she cries when it is time for bed. She also doesn’t understand my need for naps and is so used to being my shadow that she is really hurt when I go into my room without her (and yet with Noah) and shut the door.

I have really worked to make sure that Bella gets one on one still, as she is and always be my girl, so I need that time with her as much as she needs it. Probably more. Every morning we sit at my vanity and I play with her hair while she digs in my makeup bottles, rubs my lotion on her belly, and explores what a eyeliner sharpener does. She lets me do anything I want to her hair, and I love that she doesn’t mind all of my tugging and pulling and re-doing. (Did I mention that I was a real life, honest to goodness beauty school drop out when I was 20? Yep, that’s me!) I can say “Bella, do you want me to do your hair” and she excitedly goes running to my vanity chair. And Austin is so easy to please that I can incorporate him into my “me” time and he is totally cool with whatever I want to do. For instance, tonight I went for a run and he went with. He was content to pant with me, lay in the grass and do all the talking as I breathlessly try to build my endurance at sit-ups again. Towards the end of my run I got fatigued and we ended up walking, laughing and talking along the trail. Seems so long since life has moved slow enough to do that with him, and I’ve missed it.

Anyhow, Noah’s growing and thriving and everything else is coming together. If we can get through this PKU test, we’ll be DONE with all of the hospital needle crap. DONE! Ugggg! Anyhow, I’m plum tuckered, folks. I’ll keep you posted on his PKU test results…

Ok, ok. I forgive you…

I can’t hold grudges. The shoes (and feet) are on probation for good behavior.

Skinny Foot

Don’t they look so weird!? It’s like having new feet! They are all boney and veiney and stuff. Ewwwww. Gross! They look like they belong on Nicole Richie’s skinny ass!

I was so happy to step onto the scale and discover yesterday that I had lost 30 pounds since Noah’s birth. But. Hellllooooo!? My feet alone weighed that much…

Fat Foot
