Sleep? Huh?

Noah has been sick, Y’all. The kind of sick that makes a momma want to cry. Well forget the wanting, I HAVE cried. It’s not like the RSV sick he had in December, but it’s really close. I finally took him to the Dr. and found out it was a virus. We’re on the tail end of it. My poor, sweet lil’ man!

Thursday: Awful grumps. AWFUL! He cried all. day. long. When Jeremy got home, I begged for a break. Noah was sooooo unhappy! I thought it was teething until:

Friday: 101.7 temperature. Grumps. Crying. Crying. Oh, and did I mention crying?

Saturday: 101.7 temperature. All day. Crying. No naps. Crying.

Sunday: 101.7 temperature. Crying. No other symptoms, not even a runny nose. But crying? Check.

Monday: Fever gone. Strange rash all. over. body. Call Doctor. Can’t see us until Tuesday. Oatmeal bath. Oh, and crying. Did I mention that the whole family is crying too? Yes, even Bella. I’m not kidding! She would cry because she was so upset over his being so sad. My poor babies!

Tuesday: Rash. Grumpy baby. Doctors appointment. It’s a virus, can’t do anything to help. It’s a waiting game.

Wednesday: Feeling better. Crying spells cut in half and he took naps too. Yay!

Wednesday night: Frazzled Momma. Wine? Check. Ice cream? Check. But not at the same time, no. Ice cream and wine don’t go well together.

Michelle got me thinking about sleep. Do you sleep well? Are you a hard sleeper, a noisy sleeper, a light sleeper? I sleep on the same side all night long; I hardly move. Jeremy stirs all night and it makes the bed squeak really loud. I give him dirty looks while he sleeps so peacefully. He snores too, which makes me really mad at him! He’s like a caveman or something! If he drinks 2 beers, he sounds like a freakin’ hurricane! I don’t know what the connection is with his nose and beer but the two are a bad combo! He also could sleep through an air raid! I lie in bed listening to the house moan, the heater kick on, the dog scratching his ear, Bella sleep talking (clear on the other side of the house), Noah stirring, and the trees outside rubbing on the siding. I lie there thinking about fire alarms and whether the batteries are fresh. I lie there imagining that if someone tried to break in, it would take me 3.2 seconds to grab my handgun and greet them. The latter is really silly but? one time? at band camp? (Ok, nevermind if you never saw American Pie). One time (last year when I was pregnant with Noah) I was sleeping soundly when someone came by and took a bat to the window over my head! No kidding! Glass everywhere, police, fingerprinting, pacing all night, plucking shards from my hair until 4 a.m., etc. They had the wrong house, obviously, because we don’t know anyone much less anyone who wouldn’t like us enough to break our windows. Stupid kids or something. Anyways, since then I have had my gun bedside. Locked and safe from children, but ready and waiting for a whacko. The world is crazy. And you can soooo totally tell that I am sleep deprived because not only do I have a long, drawn out run-on sentence going here but also? I am not using my punctuation correctly. And? I’m totally getting off track here. What was I talking about? Oh, I’m a light sleeper. Jeremy could sleep through a meteor shower. And? I’m going to bed now.

Sweet dreams, snores, sleep walking, or whatever your slumber brings you tonight! :-)

Yikes, you have a GUN???? Wow. I do not know anyone with a gun. They are not very common at all here in Australia. I’d be frightened to have one in the house.

My husband snores so loudly it wakes me up through earplugs. It drives me crazy. I often lie there while he sleeps so soundly, snoring away, and fantasize about smothering him with my pillow. (I never would of course. Do I have to even say that?) It’s just VERY frustrating!

My Mister is a snorer…. in fact, when we went to cabin retreats with friends, every last one of us would end up awake and miserable outside the cabin while he slumbered the sleep of happy snoring nasal passage challenged bears inside.

Want to know the best part?

Mister had his adnoids removed when he was 19, you know adnoids… the things where snoring occurs.

He’s like a snoring kung fu master or something.

i’m sorry noah has been sick! as if you don’t have enough to do now you have to worry every second about what’s wrong with him and WHERE DID THAT RASH COME FROM and whatnot. at least that’s how i’d view the situation - you probably handled it a little more calmly

i’m a light sleeper too - sometimes when it’s really imperative that i get a good night’s sleep i’ll take one tylenol PM. two wll make it so that i can’t get up the next morning, but one just makes me sleepy enough to get there, ya know? i use benadryl sometimes too - and it’s not addictive (a friend’s mother who is a pharmacist assured me?). i only try these when it’s been a few days of bad sleep and i’m wiped out but yet i can feel myself not sleepy again around 9PM. maybe an idea? alcohol never works - it makes me MORE anxious rather than less so. weird…

stephieface: adenoids - my brother had his removed and they grew back.

TOB– I had heard that a lot of other countries aren’t as “gun happy” as Americans. I think that is so wonderful. As you know, America is a culture of fear. No wonder so many of us have guns. My gun used to scare the hell out of me. I hated its presence. But I’ve had things happen that made me afraid of not having one– someone breaking in while I was home alone (in broad daylight), for instance. I just want to be able to protect my home and family. Maybe the crime rate is lower in Australia? Also, I live in the “cowboy” part of America. Nearly every home has at least one gun around here. If you don’t have a gun, you wouldn’t admit that. You hardly see a pick-up truck without a loaded gun rack in the back window (now that makes me nervous).

I hate it when babies are sick. You just can’t explain to them that it will be okay and life will not always feel so badly to them. My sister’s baby has adenoid (sp?) problems. Terrible allergies for such a baby. I hope Noah gets better soon.

Sleepwise I am a night terror girl so when I am not beating the sh*t out of my husband for thinking he is trying to kill me or push him out of the way of aliens I sleep great!

What a miserable time… what was the name of the virus? Sounds like roseola… Liam had that at Noah’s age.

My hubby is the same in the sleep department. Most nights I go an sleep on the twin bed in Liam’s room. He is a quiet sleeper like his mom.

I need to take a class for gun safety. Ian wouldn’t know if someone had broken in, let alone where his gun and ammo are at any given moment. So, I may take charge of that. I’ve been so scared of guns my whole life, but since Ian insisted on getting one a few years ago, I have been okay with it in our house. And now he has a concealed weapons permit and a hand gun. I need to learn how to shoot it… it would be a dream come true for Ian if I did that. He wants me to go shooting with him all the time… and I always decline.

Gina– She didn’t say what kind of virus it was. She said that sometimes babies just get weird virus’. I read about Roseola after I read your post, but his fever wasn’t as high as I read it is supposed to get (over 103 degrees). He had all of the other symptoms of it though. I hope Bella doesn’t get it now!

Poor Noah! Poor mommy!! Taj cries all the time when he’s sick. I dread it because he has THE MOST loud, ugly cry.
Good for you for having a gun. I want one although I’m not sure what kind of a shot I am. I’d probably end up throwing it at a bad guy or hitting him with it. :) Sei would sleep thru anything and I’d be the one up trying to defend our family with…what? My pepper spray? We are going to a shooting range next week.
How did your check up go? My mom had a mammogram on Thursday because her dr. found a lump. All is fine. Did you report about it and I just missed it somewhere?
