Missing Home

I’ve been so homesick lately. I miss so many things that I just didn’t embrace enough when I was back in the South. Ohhh how I miss the sweet tea, country ham, roadside stands with delicious jams and vegetables, scrumptious boiled peanuts, the friendly southern faces, the hospitality, the twang in everyone’s talk. Those things are so fond to me. I grew up with seagulls singing to me on my walks to school, crickets calling, lightning bugs to chase, sand between my toes. Mom took me to the beach all the time and I could spend entire days warm, salty, and content.

I miss the kudzu that grew on, through, and over everything that stood still for longer than a moment. There were flowers from March until September. Flowers galore. And the smell of honeysuckle and magnolia trees? Ohhh, I have divine memories of the smell of the South.

Colorado is beautiful. But there’s no sweeter place on Earth than the South. I’ve got Carolina on my mind!

Speaking of flowers? It’s time for my black and white self portrait challenge again. Here she is…

“Don’t just smell them, y’all. Inhale them. Devour them. Wear them in your hair for no reason at all. Flowers are good for the soul…”

And here’s a color pic because flowers are just prettier in full color…

  2. I could never be mistaken for anything but a Yankee, but I do love Southern food. Grits. Sweet potato pie. Greens. The only thing I never got a taste for was sweet tea. I like my iced tea unsweetened.

  3. Want to know something funny? I’m from Virginia but people naturally assume I’m from Pittsburgh because of how I talk. Odd. It is odd, look up Pittsburghese in Wikipedia…..
Do I really sound like that?

I LOVE the second colored pic Miss Birthday Gal!
