Today my baby turned 1.
The year has flown by. It’s been one of the best years of my life. We completed our family, one year ago today, with the most awesome and sweet grand finale. There were fireworks for him the day we brought him home from NICU. Not only because it was the 4th of July, but because he is That Awesome.
I was about to give birth one year ago. It’s 8:45 pm. Noah was born a few minutes after 9 pm. I had planned to share my birth story on my blog right after he was born. But the 10 days after Noah’s birth were so intensely traumatic, and his care once we got him home was so intensely consuming, I never got around to it. His rough start made him one tough cookie though. He came into this world having such a challenge to overcome, having to fight from the get-go.
But look at him now! He is beautiful, and healthy, and soooo very funny and full of character! He’s spunky, rough and tumbly! He is my Nooskers. I love every ounce of him– from the fuzzy hairs on his head down to the cute, long toes that look like mine. He is precious to me. After I had Bella, who looked just like Jeremy, I wondered if I would ever have a baby who looked like me. Austin looks just like his daddy too. Bella has my brown curls, Austin has my freckles. But other than that, my genes seemed not to pass along any resemblance of me to my children. But then there was Noah. Bluish eyes. Fair complexion. He looks like Jeremy, no doubt, but I can see me too! That makes me smile…

We celebrated his birthday yesterday with good friends. It was wonderful! He had his own little cake, which he had more fun squishing in his hands than he did tasting it. I think I changed his clothes 4 times in just one day! When we all sang him Happy Birthday, he just sat there looking totally freaked out that everyone was watching him and singing to him.
“Ok, ok. You don’t have to sing. Just give me some cake, please.”

He played with his new best friend, Ben. You would never think two one-year-olds would be this playful and interactive with eachother. But they totally dig one another!

“Ok. I’m going to wipe snot and boogies on my sister while you pull your sister’s hair.”

I have two new girlfriends, Amy and Kim, who brought their kiddos to the party. I’m so excited to not only have friends, finally, but to also have friends with children who are my kid’s ages.
Today we celebrated his birthday with just us. Noah and Bella played all day– sidewalk drawing (Noah actually colors too!), splashing in the pool, enjoying the sunshine.

And no Birthday is complete without some Bruce Lee action. You know your baby is quickly becoming a Big Boy when he watches some martial arts with his Pop. And I wouldn’t be a good mommy if I didn’t fuss at them for sitting so close to the TV.

Happy Birthday, Noah. You are so loved. Thank you for blessing our lives with your sweetness, your humor, your awesome and lovable ways!
