She’s a goner…

My computer screen has slowly been going out for months now. Office Depot thought it was probably the video card, but I’ve discovered that it must be the monitor because it works fine when I hook it up to a seperate monitor. However, this other monitor is on its last leg too, so I need to finally get this laptop in the mail to Office Depot for repairs.

So, with that said, I’ll be bidding farewell this week to the blog (and yours, unfortunately) for a little while. I made some extra Christmas cash (even though it was cancelled out by the cell phone issue) and now it’s time to get the computer off to the shop. I was praying that the monitor would wait until November 1st before it totally died so that I could get a few last paid posts done. That’s exactly what happened, she waited until last night to finally give out on me.

I’ll be posting today some, maybe a bit tomorrow, but then I’ll be gone for a few weeks. A blog break isn’t all bad– since some extra time with my family would be super awesome. I’ll post a final (not really “final”) goodbye right before I put this bad boy in the box.

Also, if anyone knows the answer to this question, I’d be grateful:

When the monitor goes out, do they replace it normally? Or is it so expensive that they normally just replace the entire computer? I just want to get all of my pictures off of this before I send it to Office Depot if there is any chance they won’t be sending it back. Anyone know?

It’s always better to pull everything off. They usually have a disclaimer that they aren’t responsible for your data, and I think they tend to go about repairs/replacements in the most cost effective way, so best to cover your bases and save those gorgeous photos!

My last laptop came back with all data intact (thankfully, as the problem with it was that i couldn’t turn it ON to get any information off of it) but I’ve had repairs where they had to wipe the hard drive/reinstall OS, and then I lost everything.

The only experience I’ve had was sending a Dell in for repairs and I took the hard drive out. They were repairing the keyboard.

I would back all my stuff up if I were you.

On the up side, if you can see image on another monitor, it’s not video card, but the screen itself. Seems like that would be easier to replace.

I’m so sad you won’t be around, I will really miss your posts and your pictures. But I do understand the additional time to spend with your family and your schooling and your camera.

Come back soon, my friend.
