Frozen Grapes & Cabbage Soup

I’ve heard people talk about frozen grapes. They are usually insisting that I try making some. I never did until today. HUGE loss for me. Huge. This treat happens to be one of the most delicious I’ve had in awhile. It’s almost like a fruit pop… almost ice creamy textured… and the cold somehow releases more of the sweetness. I’m going to mimick all those people who told me to try them for all this time and I never listened. GO FREEZE YOURSELF SOME GRAPES!

I had one cup of them and am FULL! That’s another really neat things about frozen grapes– they seem a bit heavier, so they fill you up. One cup is not even 100 calories, so they are a great healthfood low calorie treat.

I started the “Stepherz Cabbage Soup Diet”. I had to dress the diet up a bit and make it less crash/fad and more of a lifestyle change. My problem with diets is they normally end up messing me up- either my bowels get cranky, or my blood sugar gets whacky, or I just have no energy. With this diet, I’m going to give myself all the good stuff… I basically make the cabbage soup diet recipe with more veggies, seasonings, and add some lean chicken breast chunks to it. The chicken adds some protein so that I won’t get weak or yucky feeling (not to mention I’m a meat eater). And since I eat a lot of soups and beans already (only with too much bread), this won’t be a huge change for me (making it easier to become a lifestyle change–I hope). No more bread, no more sweet snacks, no bad carbs.

I’m telling you because I hope that the pressure of telling people will help make me consistent and disciplined. I’m NOT doing a diet that makes me feel bad or that makes my tummy mad, so I’ll let you know if that happens. Wish me luck? Ten pounds to go!

  3. I don’t normally eat breakfast, so I don’t think I’ll be eating it in the morning. And cabbage is one of my favorite foods– spring rolls, kim chi, cabbage and beans with cornbread, oohh-lala. I’m hoping this diet doesn’t change that I love veggies and cabbage. :-)

Most people don’t like it from what I’ve heard. But everyone is different and I’m hoping I’m in the minority that it works for.

  4. I think the secret to frozen grape is it takes longer to eat because they are frozen and therefore you trick your brain into feeling full. :) Just a caution though, be careful giving frozen grapes to the kiddos. They are a major choking hazard. So, please tell me about this cabbage soup. I love cabbage and I use it in place of lettuce all the time. I think I could get on board with a modified cabbage soup diet.

  5. Does it hurt your teeth to eat frozen grapes? I have sensitive teeth, so just wondering…

  6. Tori, it hurts my teeth at first but then my teeth get used to the cold and it’s fine. I have SUPER sensitive teeth too.

Sophia, the cabbage soup diet recipe can be found at: http://amandasrecipecollection.blogspot.com/2008/03/cabbage-diet-soup.html

I liked her recipe the best of all the ones I read. I just added a few of my favorite spices (red pep, bay leaves, rosemary) and some chicken breast to make it healthier. It doesn’t taste at all like a diet food and even Jeremy loved it. That says everything! Hey, if you decide to try the diet, let me know. Today is my first day and I’m liking it so far.

  8. Awesome Sophia! I’m excited that you’re doing it too. I might do it 2 weeks if it isn’t too bad. It says not to do it for two weeks, but I think adding the chicken to the soup changes the nutritional concerns. We’ll see though– it’s only day 2. I’m looking forward to my baked potato tonight! I haven’t felt sickly or hungry, and my tummy is taking it perfectly.
