My Wee Tinkling Prodigy

I know you were already aware, but my children are prodigies.

When Bella turned 2, and I do mean nearly the day she turned 2, she started peeing on the potty.  I wasn’t even thinking about training yet. But she just sort of woke up one morning, insisted on wearing big girl panties, and NEVER had another accident. Once she set her head to doing it, she did it completely.

Jeremy has been dropping hints that he wants me to start training Noah. I’ve always been really relaxed… (ahem, lazy)… about it. I mention it to Noah when it comes up. I ask him if he wants to try sitting on the potty. I encourage him to try peeing outside on the dandelions (yeah, the ones they pick for me and make me put behind my ears).  But I’ve never really pushed things, or even been real diligent about anything. And he’s never taken any interest. I figured he just wasn’t ready.

Well, this weekend (and I’m knocking on wood that I’m not bragging prematurely), I was lying on the couch watching a movie. Noah says, “Momma, where’s my potty?” I replied, “It’s under the sink in the bathroom, Honey.” I wasn’t really even paying attention, it didn’t really register that he was inquiring. Normally I would have gotten it for him and made a big deal about him trying. But this time I was just distracted.

A few moments later, he comes into the living room and very non-chalantly says, “I went poop, Mom.” Well, “poop” registered  and the word was like an alarm. I looked at him and asked him where his diaper was. He said, “By my potty.” I got up and hurried to the potty, half expecting to find a poopy mess in his diaper and all over the bathroom. But, low and behold, there was a big ol’ turd in his potty! I started freaking out! I screamed and clapped and made a huge deal about it. He got all happy and told me he was going to try peeing. So I watched him sit and kind of expected he wouldn’t do it. But he did! And he’s been going in the potty since then– only 1 accident– now 3 days later! He’s wearing his big boy Buzz Lightyear undies like a champ! He doesn’t even have to be reminded either, he just goes and tells me about it afterwards!

Amazing. See!? Prodigy!

  1. I am so jealous! LOL Amelia took a year and a half to potty train. Anthony took off his diaper and pooped on the couch the other day… Ha.

  2. Can I bring you my son so you can potty-train him? LOL

Evelyn was fulling PT’d by the age of 3. Trey is 2 and we haven’t even started. I don’t even know where to begin with a boy.

  3. LUCKY. Xan is 3 and has had some great potty days, but he is FAR from potty trained. UGH. My mom was ALL OVER my case this past weekend for the fact that he wasn’t potty trained yet. She not-so-subtly suggested that I was a lazy parent because he was still in diapers. Yeah, that’s me. Lazy mom. *silent scream*

  5. It’s funny, Noah has always hated getting his diaper changed. I can honestly say that he’s never let me change a poopy diaper without him crying and kicking. NEVER. So, for the last 6 months, when I change him and he starts crying, I always say the same thing: “Well, when you start pooping on the potty like a big boy, I won’t have to wipe your butt with cold wipes anymore.”

I think that finally sank in. Fingers crossed it stays good. Today was the first day that we actually left the house the whole day and I figured he’d have accidents because he’d be away from his potty. But not a single accident. I’m still in shock…

    Yayyy!
